Hello! Thank you for visiting The Visual Epigraph Studio… My name is Edward Kearns and this is my creative space. I’m an artist and photographer… and this is currently my side hustle.
I’ve been drawing, painting, designing and creating “things” for most of my life, but it wasn’t until a few short years ago that I had a creative epiphany. While watching a craft video on action/poured painting, I noticed how much more interesting the paint looked while it was still moving… the chemical reaction and interaction of different colors was mesmerizing. I had to take a picture with my phone… the quality of the photo left much to be desired, so I bought a point-and-shoot camera and built jig to operate the camera and paint at the same time. I was impressed with my results but soon realized that the images I had created only looked great at 8x10 or smaller… I needed a better camera. I saved up some money and bought myself a “real” DSLR camera, headed back into the studio, painted and shot photos. I was eager to get the images onto my computer to process them, but to my horror, nothing turned out. Even my cellphone photos had turned out better. I realized that I actually needed to learn how to use the technology in the high tech camera in order to achieve my desired results. So I studied and I practiced, doing different exercises and experiments. Then I had another creative epiphany: I had become a photographer.
I still paint, design and create “things,” but photography has become my primary medium.
I’m currently in the process of rebuilding this page so new images will be coming soon, along with a few other interesting things. Thanks again for coming to my site!
